Cold Soba Noodles (Home Made)

All my brother does best is cooking. This time he cooked this Cold Soba Noodles and it sure looks like it came from a restaurant!

Tastes exactly the same as those I have at restaurants!

Just a regret that there wasn't wasabi at home.

It is actually pretty simple to make because the sauce, seaweed and noodles all come from a same pack which can be bought at most supermarkets. The packaging was thrown away so I could not remember the brand name. However, I'll find it if someone wants to know. Not from the rubbish bin, from the supermarket.

Poached Salmon @ IKEA

Not as 'fasinating' as the meatballs but definately worthed it for such a big piece of salmon!

The potatos are soft and go well with the sauce.

When i cut the salmon I could see red-coloured fatty substance flowing out. To me, that is very appetising. Tastes great but lacked a better texture to the fish.

At $6.90 for this portion, worthed it. Unless you are the kind of person who don't really fancy salmon.

Swedish Meatballs @ IKEA

The famous Swedish Meatballs @ IKEA.

There's jam to go with meatballs. I found it so fascinating the first time I knew about it.

I ordered this for $2.90 for 5.

Let me try to describe them more.

Tasty?
Delicious?

I really don't know how.

Just try it!

Chicken Wings @ IKEA

Not the best but still good. Ordered it because everyone around was having them. (I'm just one of the sheeps)

Nicely seasoned and not very oily. Another good part is the meat is cooked nicely and not like some other chicken wings where you can still see blood.

At just $7.50 for 6, it's worthed it with the air-con and nice eating environment. Well, how can there not be good environment, its IKEA!

Soursop and Strawberry Milkshake @ Alexandra Village Food Centre

YUMMY! Compared to the Avocado Milshake, this is no where behind. It tastes sweeter but all it lacks is the nutritional value as compared to Avocado Milkshake.

A perfect combination of strawberry, soursop and milk at just $2.

In my opinion other fruit juice stalls around (if they are still surviving) have to close down.

Avocado Milkshake @ Alexandra Village Food Centre

Totally fantastic. Although this is the first Avocado Milkshake I had, I can say that this is surely one of the best. The combination of ingredients like evaporated milk and avocado was perfect to me!

At $2, what else can I say? Best
(Avocados are not cheap)

I heard the stall owner has been making this for around 19 years. Salute.

Big Prawn Noodles @ Alexandra Villlage Food Centre

1 and a half big prawns. I don't mind paying $5 to have this bowl of noodles or should I say, claypot of noodles.

Although the soup is not the best I have tasted, it is still acceptable.

To me, when having prawn noodles, I'll rather have the thick, fat, yellow and round kind of noodle.

Everyone should have a try of this as something like this would most likely costs higher at other places.

Sesame Oil Chicken @ Alexandra Village Food Centre

Not to my expections. I prefer my Sesame Oil Chicken to be in smaller pieces and spicier. This version wasn't considered spicy to me at all but was rather sweet. (I dislike sweet things to go with rice especially soup).

The special part is that there are black fungus in it. That's something new to me. Overall I'll still recommend to have the Bak Kut Teh from the same stall if you are only ordering one of them.

It's around $8 for 2 persons' portion and I feel its not very worthed it unless your taste is different from mine.

Bak Kut Teh @ Alexandra Village Food Centre

From the stall , it is one of the best bak kut teh I ever had. It was not very spicy but instead had a herbal taste which I think is Dang Gui, a chinese herb. The pork ribs are not the same as the ones I had at other stalls as the ones here actually had the tastes of the spices of the soup compared to the others where there is only the taste of 'boiled meat'.

Shown here is a 2 persons' portion and costs around $8. I wouldn't say it is a big portion but it definitely will fill up your stomach and make you rub your tummy and say "yummy!"

Lasagna Buongustaio @ Crazy Ang Moh, Bishan

Long story to this plate of lasagna.

Decided to go back to this stop in Bishan after the last time I had the Lasagna Spinach there.

Wanted to order Lasagna Squid Ink because I was hoping to try what squid ink really tastes like after reading blog posts about them. Really disappointed because the guy at the cashier told me that there was only Lasagna Buongustaio and Lasagna Carbonara left.

I ordered Lasagna Carbonara but when it came I immediately knew that it was not the right dish as it had onions on it. I was sure that Lasagna Carbonara doesn't have onions. I approached another person at the shop and he said "Sorry, we all sold out only left this."

But hey! You told me there was Lasagna Carbonara and I ordered it. The receipt even writes "Lasagna Carbonara".

As I am the kind who won't bicker over such things, I just said that it was ok. Its lasagna anyway!

The bad thing is I don't really fancy onions.

Back to the part ;"when it came" it was so hot that the cream sauce was bubbling. Looked a little scary but made me relieved that the flies would not attack it anytime soon.

It had a mild onion scent to it.

Normally thick white cream like this will let me get sick of it after a few mouths but in this dish, the cream and the lasagna fuses together and creates this texture and taste that you will not easily get sick of. From my research, this creamy sauce is the creation of the shop's boss.

The portion was also really big.

Big portion of restaurant standard lasagna at only $7. Worthed it, but just don't bring me the wrong dish the next time!

Stewed Beef Brisket @ Bishan

I saw this stall at the 2nd floor above Bishan Bus Interchange which sells a variety of food. There are certificates and posters pasted on the shop front so I thought, "I must try!"

It's best to offer was actually curry chicken which I knew because the poster all over were saying "Best curry chicken, Must try!" Something like this.

However It was late morning and I didn't felt like eating curry so I decided to order another of their specialty which was Stewed Beef Brisket with rice at $4. I could not pronounce its Mandarin characters (牛腩) well when I was ordering. Made a fool out of myself. I also did not know what 'brisket' means. Now I found out that it is the meat cut from the breast or lower chest of the cow.

Stewed Beef Brisket (3)

When I saw it was just a small bowl of soup I was thinking, "Sure got scammed!"

Not when I ate it that I found it to be very filling.

The soup has several pieces of beef, carrots and this white thing (you can see in the photo) which tastes like wintermelon.

Although I did not quite liked the taste, it was pretty unique. A little of sweet and a little of sour.

Stewed Beef Brisket (2)

The meat is pretty tough (some I could not even chew it totally and had to spit it out) but I like eating the fatty part which is on top of each of the meat.

At $4 I think it is worthed it only if you are a fan of beef brisket or you might not be able to finish the whole thing. Going to try the curry chicken someday soon.

Sweet & Sour Fish and Spicy Mayo Fish Fillet @ FC4, Singapore Polytechnic

Spicy Mayo Fish Fillet with Rice

Sweet & Sour Fish with Rice

Sweet and Sour Fish with Rice

At just $3.50 each, it is the kind of food you would eat in school when you want to fill up your stomach with good food but not spend alot!

The Spicy Mayo Fish Fillet brought me a taste I have never tried before. It was not very spicy and had a little sweetness to it. However, I felt that it can be less sweet as I do not prefer having a sweet meal. Furthermore, I left a tiny portion of rice behind as it was "flooded" with the sauce and I would really feel sick if I continued eating the sauce although it was unique and nice.

I thought the Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet would be the same as those you get at other stalls outside of school where the fish fillet is thick and has abit of chew to it but I was wrong. Both Spicy Mayo and Sweet & Sour fish used the same fish except with different sauce. The fish fillets were nicely fried and acceptably thin.

Definately worthed it ;)

Tomato Mussel Stew @ Swensen's IMM

Decided to try this after seeing reviews of it on another blog.

As described, the soup had a really comfortable taste of tomato to it. It was so delicious, I actually ate the onions which I rather not touch normally. I don't really know how to tell whether a mussel is fresh but it sure tasted perfect for me.

I'm not sure what's the white part of the mussel that is stuck on the shell called but I have always tried to eat it down as well. It was an enjoyment for me to cut it off and put it down my stomach. I wonder if there are others like me.

The bread was too crispy. I felt like I was having a earthquake in my head when I bite into it. Had no choice but to have it together with the soup.

At $13.90 which makes it $16+ after the GST and service charges, not really worthed the money to try it again.

Breaded Chicken Meuniere @ Swensen's, IMM

This chicken cutlet at Swensen's is so cripsy yet not oily.
It is really well marinated and the chicken is tender and of just the right thickness.

I don't know why but I like the small pieces of egg on the lemon. It has really a very unique taste. Don't see it being served like that in other restaurants.

The fries are also cut the way I like them. I just regretted not adding some black pepper on them.

Swan River Chick @ Mad Jack Cafe, Bukit Timah

As I browsed the menu, this caught my eye.

A Swan?

A Chick? Chicken?

MadJackMenu1
"Available while stocks last"
This is the statement that made me say to myself, "Yes! I must have this or I'll regret!"

It didn't disappoint me. The chicken was extremely tender and the sauce wasn't too salty as I expected it to be. I really wished I could just hold the whole thing up and munch on it.
The sauce was so delicious that I even finished all the carrots.

When I took a first bite on the corn, I felt it was the most tasteless corn I ever had. However, I found out the trick which is to add a little salt and pepper on it and it becomes one of the best corn I have ever had. I accidentely added too much pepper on one spot and it made me cough really bad.

I'll surely recommend this to my friends and family the next time I bring them along!

Grilled Chicken in Black Pepper Sauce @ Mad Jack Cafe, Bukit Timah

Without the fantastic sauce it might taste just like any other tender chicken chop you can find in a western food stall. The chicken and the black pepper sauce was a perfect combination.

After eating this I felt that my expectations for chicken chops just went way up.

The fries was also the kind that I like. Sprinkled with some black pepper, it reminds me of the fries at Fish & Co. To me, these are the kind of fries that you can really taste the potato in it.

The peach and apple salad was something fresh but I found it only average except the lettuce underneath that had a sweet touch to it.

At only $7.90, it's one of the best value chicken I ever had.

Bean Curd @ Bukit Timah Food Centre

It's not as sweet as other beancurds that comes with syrup. In this version, the syrup is substituded with soy bean milk instead. Very smooth and fine.

1 bowl of plain beancurd costs $1 and for 4 dumplings more I just have to pay $0.80 more.

Very satisfying eating it after a meal.

Till I find a better beancurd, this is number 1.

Fish Porridge @ Bukit Timah Food Centre

As promised, I'm back at 泉香鱼口粥 at Bukit Timah Food Centre after the previous time I had fish soup at their stall. I was determined to find out what made so many people wait so long for a bowl of fish porridge because I did not find anything very special when I had the fish soup.

Once again I was disappointed as all I could find was a bowl of fish porridge that even my Grandma can cook.

I noticed the chilli is different this time because it's porridge. Was not as spicy as the previous one which came as a paste form.

Still very average and at $5 for a bowl, I would probably not eat it again.

Australian Ribeye Steak @ Botak Jones, Toa Payoh

Just looking at it made me hungry! Sure makes you hungry too if you share the same interest in steaks as me.

Comes with a bowl of sauce that I could dip little pieces of steak in. One of the best steak I had in awhile. I decided to have it well-done and it did come to my expectation. Some steaks comes with the meat so tough when you have them well-done. This was great.

The lines on the steak made it even more appetising.

1 reason why it was so tender was because the steak was flown from US to Singapore chilled not frozen.

Just for $16 for 200g is definately worthed it and I'm so tempted to feast on it again while typing now. HUNGRY!

Cajun Chicken @ Botak Jones, Toa Payoh

Recently had the mini version of this Cajun Chicken. Tasted the same but came in a larger size. Brocolli and Corn on Cob as side dishes made it healthy! (at least looked healthy)

1 set is at $7.50 and definately worthed it!

Giant Pork Italian Sausage @ Botak Jones, Toa Payoh

I'll compare this to the hot dog at Mos Burgers. Although not as juicy as the one at the latter, it sure is GIANT as the food name suggests.

It tastes much better after adding some mustard on top!

At $8, I'll choose to have the one at MB (sorry BJ).

For $7, the big piece of fish came with 2 side dishes (potato salad and cheese potato).

The fish is fresh and the coating thin; not like some other fish & chips which is covered with thick layers of breadcrumps.

The potato salad was not to my liking as it just tastes weird to me but the cheese potato tasted like mashed potato and was actually very tasty.

Overall, I'll say that it is still acceptable for $7 but I will recommend to order other dishes that Botak Jones offer!

Dinner Burger @ Astons, Jurong East

Me: "Auntie, what's a dinner burger?"

Auntie: "It's just a fish or chicken burger with 1 side dish."

So thats the 'story' how this chicken burger came about. Actually ordered Beefy Jack Burger but was told that it was sold out. I'll definitely try it next time!

This chicken burger is stacked up with:

1. Bread
2. Chedar Cheese
3. Lettuce
4. Tomato

The burger was pretty filling. Biggest burger I ever tried YET.
The onion rings were very normal. I'll say those at burger kings are much better.

In my opinion, ordering Chargrill Chicken which comes as a bigger piece of chicken and 1 more side dish at just another $0.40 is more worthed it.

Fish Soup @ Bukit Timah Food Centre

The shop is called 泉香鱼口粥. I noticed that this shop is always very busy at night with many people waiting for their food. I even saw celebrities eating there so this afternoon I felt I must definately have a taste. Although I thought that they might be better at their fish porridge than others on their menu, I decided to have fish soup with rice.

It did not reach my expectation as the soup to me was pretty bland. The first few slices of fish I tried did not taste like fish at all. The texture and sweetness of the fish was not there. However, the subsequent slices were fine at the texture but still lacked the taste of fish that I always tasted at other stalls.

The only thing that I really liked was the chilli sauce. At first I was startled when I saw it. It is not the usual red in colour but actually slightly yellowish-brown in colour! (Looks a little like mud) When I tried it... I can only say that for people who cannot take spicy food should just avoid it or dip just a tiny little bit. ITS SPICY!

At $3.50 for both soup and rice, I felt it was worthed it but I'll never have the fish soup again as it does not suit my taste. I'll definately try the porridge next time. Hope I'll not have another disappointment.

Mini Cajun Chicken Burger @ Botak Jones, Bukit Batok

Back at Botak Jones!

This time I came with the craving of the Cajun Chicken which I have waited for quite awhile.

I was surprised when I saw it.

This looks like grilled fish!

Couldn't wait to start.

When I cut open the chicken, I could immediately see that the chicken is not the kind of chicken which Zinger or Mc Spicy is made of. The meat is tender and topped with cheese and Cajun sauce which makes it looks and tastes abit like pizza.

Finished the whole thing in less than 5 minutes. I surely did not give it a chance to escape!

Fish & Chips @ Modern Grill, Holland Close

Although the price may be a little little high, at $6.90, for a plate of fish & chips at a coffeshop but...

The fish was really huge. Not only surface but it was thick as well! The meat is also really fresh.

The apple salad was just GREAT! The apple is so sweet and cut into tiny pieces. I just could not stop putting my fork into each and every piece.

The fries were quite normal with some spices on top but was served very hot.

The exciting thing is the sauce! Its a mix of mayonnaise and mango sauce. I was a little shocked as I did not expect it in a coffeeshop. However, I'd still say I do prefer Tartar sauce over the mango-mayo sauce.

Overall, I think it is worthed it and be prepared with a really empty stomach for the big serving of fish!
